What is Alternative?

Alternative is a San Diego based community youth-arts program that was founded in 2004 to offer percussionists between the ages of 14 and 22 an opportunity to perform with an indoor percussion ensemble while still being able to manage academic, work and family responsibilities, drum corps, and other arts related activities.

The primary goal of Alternative is not only to improve young percussionists physically and musically, but also mentally. We teach our members life lessons through the required commitment and service to a team which encourage young people to grow up as refined adults who feel a responsibility towards their community. At Alternative, we use the drumline as a vehicle to improve the confidence and responsibility of young people: we are confident that the improvement of an Alternative member will prove of real benefit to the community.

Alternative is a part of the San Diego Alliance Drum & Bugle Corps youth-arts organization. (The San Diego Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation of the State of California and is also an Explorer Post (Post 2022) of the Desert Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America.)
